My wife Katrien and I have decided to create a limited edition of our Oro De Pòe DOP with an extra virgin olive oil that was harvested solely from the olives of the oldest trees on our property, dating back more than 300 years. This oil finds its origin in the deep connection we have with the land on which it is made, and is dedicated to the ancient Roman legionnaire: CAIUS VETTONIUS MAXIMUS. By honouring this ancient Roman soldier, we wish to pay homage to the rich heritage that is deeply rooted in the historic territory of the Veneto region.
We have hand-picked only the finest olives (of the special local "Frantioio Povese" variety) from our most century-old trees, to produce a single varietal DOP extra-virgin olive oil that is greenish gold in colour, intensely fragrant at the nose, and exquisitely balanced on the palate.
The DOP stands for protected designation of origin (PDO) and only products which meet the geographical and rigorous quality criteria may use the protected indication.
Our Oro de Pòe limited edition CAIUS VETTONIUS MAXIMUS Extra Virgin Olive Oil DOP Veneto del Grappa also this year has been included in the “Slow Food Presidio”, chosen to represent the excellence and tradition of Italian extra virgin olive oil production. The “Presidium” is a Slow Food project dedicated to the protection and promotion of Italian foods and condiments, respecting tradition and safeguarding biodiversity and local history and culture.
